A native of Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Manav Malik (“Dr. M&M” as children call him) comes from a family of dentists, his father practiced dentistry for over 30 years as the Dental Director of the Health Department in Sarasota, and his sister is a practicing Orthodontist in Houston, TX. Dr. Malik attended one of the nation’s top high schools – Pine View School –where he graduated ranked number one in his class. In his freshman year of college, while volunteering at Miami Children’s Hospital as an inhouse DJ for Radio Lollipop, Dr. Malik developed a passion for working with children. This passion was further fueled by Dr. Malik’s involvement in Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Greater Miami while serving as a long-time mentor. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Malik headed to “gator country” to attend dental school at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.
Dr. Malik graduated from the University of Florida College of Dentistry at the top of his class as a decorated scholar. Finally, Dr. Malik supported the Dean’s office and alumni activities through Dental Ambassadors – a service organization bridging the community and the dental school.
After dental school, Dr. Malik completed his pediatric dental residency at the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. As a resident, Dr. Malik started his own moonlighting practice, M&M Dentistry for Kids, which he ran on weekends in rural, north Texas to provide families access to pediatric dental care where it was not otherwise available. Towards the end of residency, Dr. Malik was invited as a guest speaker at the Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s mid-winter meeting in Vail, Colorado, to speak on personality dynamics in the pediatric dental practice. After completing residency, Dr. Malik spent several years practicing pediatric dentistry in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Dr. Malik’s dream of creating a unique, one-of-kind pediatric dental practice led him back to his hometown in Florida. From office layout and interior design to marketing and branding, Dr. Malik created his dream practice – SmileWorks Kids Dentistry. Today, the practice strives to provide every child with the highest quality of pediatric dental care in a fun, safe, and engaging environment.
